The silence grew heavier and heavier, until Penelope let out with the most broken voice Benedict had ever heard from her “He left me”.
He slowly took her in his arms as she sniffed softly in his shirt.
“We Bridgertons take care of each other” Benedict offered. “If you’re pregnant, that baby will have everything they could ever need”.
Whatever warmth that had started to crawl into Penelope faded in an instant. She got herself free of his arms and fought back the tears. Was that it? Was that his only concern? A hypothetical baby? She thought she was a part of the family, as honorary as the title got. Was that the condition under which she could be a “Bridgerton”? Have Colin’s child? Did he care so little about her as a person if she was not pregnant? Now that Colin had left, she felt like a problem that the Bridgerton family needed to solve. -

It’s been 5 years since that day when Buck’s whole world crumbled. When he lost the love of his life, family and home all at once. He tried to keep in touch with Chris, he really did. But time and distance made it go further and further between the calls, and eventually they died out, transitioning into a venmo for birthdays and Christmas’s.
He never spoke to Eddie again.

The man freezes at the sight of him and Buck sees how his eyes widen in shock. For a moment they just stare at each other.
“Buck..?” Eddie eventually says hesitantly, eyes darting behind him towards the road, almost like he was looking for an explanation for his presence behind him, and Buck clears his throat before lifting an eyebrow.
“Well. You look pretty good for being on the brink of death.” He states dryly. -
