No, Nick really had turned Savage. Judy honestly didn't think she'd make it out alive, until she found a tiny vent in the bottom of the sunken area they had been trapped in.
Then Nick comes back to himself, and Bellwether is ruling Zootopia and putting rebellious predators in cages. And apparently he killed Judy that day. Now he's sitting in a cage, going mad with self hatred. (And the guards there don't exactly take kindly to him.) Judy isn't having any of that, though.
Seriously, a dark fic. Don't read if you have triggers or if you're looking for a happy fluffy fic.

“You can go and get yourself killed if you want.” Sojiro had told him, that first weekend together. He had stared down the kid, his gaze as hard and stern as his words. The kid couldn’t meet his eyes; he looked like he hadn’t decided whether to trust Sojiro yet, either. “But don’t go dragging others into your mess.”
Now, as Sojiro sits at the side of his kid’s bed, carefully watching the labored rise and fall of his chest, he wishes he never said those words.

Summary
Yaldabaoth kills the other phantom thieves but is defeated when Joker summons Satanael. Right before Joker pulls the trigger, Yaldabaoth offers a deal with 3 conditions.
1. The thieves will be brought back to life.
2. Any memory of Akira will be erased. He'll be unable to reforge his bonds.
3. Joker must spare Yaldabaoth. Since his power is depleted from the fight, Yaldabaoth won't re-emerge for a long time.In a wave of guilt for the deaths of his friends, Joker accepts the deal, bringing his friends back, but erasing the world's memory of him in return.
8 years later, Yaldabaoth is nearly back to full power and Akira learns that his impending return has weakened the deal's influence on reality. After eight years of trying to accept his situation, he can now remind the world of who he is.
Akira now sets off on a journey to reforge the bonds with his thieves and restore their memories of him one by one before their final fight with Yaldabaoth.Bookmarked by MissHauntedMoonlight
