Summary
The Emperor's favourite, or, the Huli Jing, as the people liked to call him, was lying on his bed, a picture of easy decadence. Robe a flimsy thing of red, sheer, highlighting the severe dip of his waist and slight jut of his hips. His legs, long and bare, peeked out. Marks littered his pale chest, the robe loose there and showing off his sharp collarbones.
Like this, it was really very easy to imagine the omega son of a servant, the war prize, the vixen, who had earned the Emperor's attention and kept it. And then his eyes found Lan Wangji's and he smiled like the sun, like he couldn't quite help it.

Xiao-Yu is asleep beside him, snoring like a tiny foghorn with his face buried in his little pillow; but Wei Ying’s side of the mattress is empty, and Lan Wangji can hear the soft echo of his husband’s footsteps issuing from the kitchen.
Smiling, Lan Wangji rises from the bed and dons a pair of clean slippers; and then he turns Xiao-Yu onto his back and kisses his fluffy head, tucking his plush bee under his arm to keep him from rolling over again.
“There,” he whispers. “Sleep well, my son. Your A-Niang and I will not be away for long.”

This is a political marriage canon divergence AU based on the Untamed drama and picks up from Lan Wangji’s Yiling visit in Episode 29. Rather than leaving the Burial Mounds at the end of the day, Lan Wangji makes a different choice to stay with Wei Wuxian. One thing leads to another, and the two of them end up marrying for political reasons. Unfortunately, that’s not the end of their troubles...

A little less than a year after their wedding, Wei Ying leaves the Cloud Recesses to go night-hunting on his own.
This is not entirely uncommon. It is true that Wei Ying usually night-hunts with Lan Wangji, or with the juniors: but every now and then, he receives news of mild hauntings within a day’s ride from home and goes off alone to attend to them with Little Apple in tow.
On the fourth such occasion, Lan Wangji finds himself waiting late into the night for Wei Ying to return. Wei Ying sent a messenger talisman to the Jingshi earlier that evening, informing Lan Wangji that he had safely completed his night-hunt and started back for home—and though he ought to have reached the Cloud Recesses within the next two shichen, there has been no sign of him yet.
