Summary
She learns, over these short years, that it’s more present if she keeps her eyes closed. It feels fuller, more real. Sometimes, if she’s lucky, she can hear a breath or two. Nothing concrete. She can’t tell from just a breath if it’s real. But it’s close enough. It’s raspy enough, gravelly. It’s enough for her. She doesn’t care. During the fall, when she is weak and she is small, Desire wins. It’s a private, personal victory, but Desire wins. She finally, finally, reaches out to touch, her eyes squeezed shut, and meets the solid frame of a body. It makes her heart leap in her throat, and there is a sharp intake of breath that she can hear, she swears she can hear it, of surprise from her ghost.
She’s going mad. This isn’t real. None of it was. But she still wants it to be, and so it is. She's distantly reminded of Eros and Psyche. Of Orpheus and Eurydice. Of East of the Sun and West of the Moon. But she won't lose him like they did. She won't open her eyes. She won't let him flee from her. She loves him, even after all this time.
And isn't that sad?

Summary
The world ended once, then twice. And in the fallout afterward, life went on in other ways.
Steve leaves Barter Town hoping to clear his head some and return back to who he used to be when he was learning from Hopper the ways of the wasteland. He doesn't realize that Dustin has tagged along until it is far too late to go back. And it all goes downhill from there.
As for Eddie, he's just trying to survive.This is how we get Steve and Eddie coparenting Dustin in an apocalypse!
Essentially, an AU with the Stranger Things Cast in a Mad Max universe where Steve and Eddie kiss. -

The doors open, and you step out onto the platform, feet quick and sure.
Your hands run through your hair, an act of rage, an act of hatred, self-destruction,
Because every time you do, you remember your mother telling you it was a shame that the red was there at all.
So close to being perfect.It looks like blood, dripping down your crown.
You think of boiling water, of bruised limbs, of screaming fights, of shattered glass, of home.
You smile at your aching arm, and walk home.You think of dad.
“See? I can be violent too.”

Jin swung Kyouko around, raising her up up into the sky. She was four years old, and wore the brightest smile he’d ever seen.
Koichi called out, “Hey, stop moving! I can’t get a clear picture if you keep squirming!”
Jin heard the click of the camera, and smiled, as Kyouko waved her arms in the air. This distraction was nice, with gentle breezes rustling their hair.
The three of them would do things like this often. Jin remembered one morning in particular, where they sat in a sunny field, with flower crowns in their hair. Kyouko had made them herself.
Or: Before he had nothing, Jin Kirigiri had everything.
