    Summary

A great source of despair draws Nightmare to an abandoned AU. There he finds an unfinished Sans with no name, no companions, no purpose, no world, and a soul. Nightmare gives him the option to get out of his abandoned, empty world. He accepts the offer but refuses to destroy anything or hurt people. Instead he finds another purpose. In return the Bad Sanses give him a home, companions, a life, and a name. They call him Ink.

Or: Before he can destroy his soul and enter the Doodle Sphere, Ink is recruited by Nightmare. He accepts his role as best he can, even if he sometimes feels like he is meant for something more.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I remember being hesitant at first to read Im_Sorry_Buddy’s works for two reasons. One: They are Ink-centric, and at the time I had yet to find any portrayals of Ink as a character that I actually liked. Two: The length. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love longfics, but Buddy’s fic lengths are a whole different BEAST. Really, technically, it was the length that made me go “eh. why not,” in the first place, but knowing the fic was revolving around a character I had no prior instances of liking, and having read nothing else from Buddy that would prove I would even end up liking them as an author in the first place made me think it was pretty likely the direction they would take the fic in was ultimately one I wouldn’t end up enjoying. I was wrong, and I am ecstatic about it.

It took me WEEKS to plow through this fic. WEEKS. AND I WAS LOVING EVERY SECOND OF IT. INK IS EVEN MORE RUINED FOR ME AS A CHARACTER THAN BEFORE BC NOW I SEE INK IN A FIC AND I GET SO EXCITED AND AN LIKE ACTIVELY HAVING FLASHBACKS TO EACH OF BUDDY’S EPIC INKS UNTIL awww mannnn i forgot most people write ink as an evil jerk ;(

    And the family dynamics <3

Adrianainthesnow has some lengthy DSMP/SBI fics, don’t get me wrong, but they also seem to have an immaculate ability to fit a lot more plot in fewer words than the usual fics I tend to read. Without it feeling at all rushed. Just, some chapters seem to be shockingly short, and yet it covers so much— They’ve done some elaborate, REALLY creative plotlines imo. There’s so much fluff and unique lore written in such a perfectly concise manner— Like, I don’t even know how to explain it in a way I think does it any justice. It’s so amazing, though. I wish I could put more words to how genuinely cool their writing seems to me.

    Bookmarker's Notes

While I am no longer fixated on DSMP/SBI content, Sircantus was one of the earliest authors for that specific fandom I found. And though they were not the FIRST author I found, they were the first author that had me bingeing most everything on their account because I immediately LOVED what I was seeing from them. Writing is subjective. Everybody has different preferences. They were the first author in that fandom that wasn’t leaving something to be desired when it came to my personal preferences. They were the first author in that fandom to become one of my favorites.

The pure AMOUNT of reading material available on their account, the family dynamics (platonic love my beloved <3), the topics of demons/zombies/other magical elements (LOVE ME MY MAGICAL TWISTS MISS ME WITH REALISTIC IRL CRUD/lh), their general commitment to their fics (in the sense that what they already do have done is LONG LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNG, and that if it’s unfinished, I can usually count on a random update out of the blue every once in a while), and just their general way of writing/storytelling in a way that rarely aggravates my personal buttons are all contributing factors to this favoritism. (This favoritism that has kept me checking back every once in a while bc even though SBI has mostly lost my interest, Sircantus works haven’t.)

I found it impossible to choose one of his fics that I like above all the rest, so for this bookmark I’m choosing the first work I read from him. I haven’t ever gotten into “The Last Of Us,” haven’t watched anything of it at all, but zombies? Without an MCD tag for major angst? Sign me up! (Oh! Another thing I love about him! Is self-reportedly too soft to write permanent MCD!) And my heartstrings—(*insert me screaming about spoilery things here*) The fic had me hooked on his whole account for MONTHS to say the least. And the fics he writes about eldritch horror families? The vibes are immaculate. Have yet to find another author that does eldritch horror dark fluff family better in my heavily biased opinion.
