He wasn’t sure when he began to notice her.
It could have been when she faced him after Dumbledore’s death, the fire and righteousness in her honey eyes ablaze as she prepared to kill for what she thought was right.
It could have been when she appeared on the schoolyard-turned battlefield, that same flame in her eyes, face painted in fury and lethality pouring from the tip of her wand.
It could have been when she found him in the Shrieking Shack, blood pouring from the wounds in his throat, and administered antivenom that she had created in her own time, using venom extracted from Arthur Weasley, just in case .
The memory of the moments after being bitten by that fucking snake were a haze of pain. All he can recall with any acuity is the colour of her eyes and the blood that smeared across her hands, his blood. “I won’t let you die.” She had told him, even as he begged her to let him, that he couldn’t survive this, that he didn’t want to survive this.
Yes.
That was probably it.
