Summary
This is a "missing scene" from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television show's Season 5 Episode 10, titled "Into the Woods."
IMHO, all the action is clear though not obvious, because I like the challenge of writing sex scenes without using any of the actual terminology for same. Crash course for those unfamiliar with the series: Riley is a graduate student by day, secret special-ops soldier by night; his unit earlier captured the infamous vampire Spike just long enough to implant him with a device that prevents him from harming humans. They both are in love with the eponymous heroine, the "her" referred to by them and in the title of the story and who is preoccupied with saving her family and the world.
I gave a "trigger warning" of "rape/non-con," but only out of an abundance of caution. After you read it, ask yourself whether this liaison is undesired -- and which character is in control physically and which character is in control emotionally of what is happening.

Summary
This is a Christmas-time story written in response to a Summer 2002 challenge to explain Angel's tattoo. I believe it reveals a plausible theory for that, and for the names Angel, Connor and Liam -- and a whole lot more. If I had to identify a single theme in the story as a whole, I would say that it is about identity.
The story is a slight AU in that it implies that The Groosalug arrived in Los Angeles in December 2001 rather than in February 2002.
The story will make more sense to those who have seen the pivotal A:ts Season Two episode "Darla."
The story does contain brief, veiled references to het sex, gay sex, homicide and suicide. And, of course, it talks a bit about vampires biting/killing humans, given that is generally what vampires do.

Summary
In the Season One episode "Cypher," protagonist Police Detective Jim Ellison has just rescued Blair Sandburg -- his sometime work partner, housemate and best friend — from a serial killer. Blair, an anthropology doctoral candidate, notes that in some societies this action would make Jim his permanent “blessed protector” -- and offers to have the police department logo tattooed on himself in gratitude. Jim responds, “You get a tattoo and your blessed protector is going to kick your ass down seven flights of stairs to the lobby.” This story, in Jim's PoV, is my theory/explanation as to why Jim says this.
I have made Jim's father, William, a decade older than canon states he is -- that is to say, born in 1928 rather than in 1938. Not only does this facilitate William's backstory as I describe it, but I believe that it also is more plausible under American societal norms to have William (an affluent American business leader) be 29 when his first son (Jim) is born rather than only 19. -
