Summary
Hayato squawks, and Touya takes the opportunity to slip the spoon into his mouth. Hayato giggles around the bite, swiping his arms at nothing, yellow mash spilling down his chin. He swallows his bite and then what Touya spoons back into his mouth, and after, Touya decides it’s probably time to give up. He drops the spoon back into the jar of mashed banana, feeling well and truly defeated.
Several puffs stick to Hayato’s fingers when he smacks them back onto his tray; Hayato paws them into his fist, then shoves his fist into his mouth to gum on.
“You’re silly,” Touya tells him, sitting the little glass jar of baby food on the dining table. He nudges it with his fingertips to the center so he doesn’t accidentally knock it over with his elbow. “Are you all done?”
Hayato warbles, snagging more strawberry cracker puffs. He crunches them with his five and a half teeth and, after digging around the maze rings of his sensory plate for stragglers, holds his hand out.

Summary
Touya takes the reprieve to eat in relative peace, his eldest slumped against his body like a ragdoll. When he checks, Hayato is awake and alert, just limp and content as he fiddles with the contrasting fabrics of Touya’s clothes. He likes the thick, pale threading in the seams of Touya’s overalls because it makes his fingers feel tingly when he touches it for too long, and Touya’s sweater is soft enough to rest against without being too scratchy. Much like his son, Touya tends to only wear things that don’t irritate his skin or that little nagging voice in his brain that demands gentle material or death.
“Did you get enough to eat, my little owl?”
“Yeah,” Hayato says, glancing up briefly and then back down at the stuffed jellyfish under his arm. He bounces her to flop some of her tentacles over Touya’s leg, her sewn-on face pressed to Touya’s belly. Hayato’s ear feathers raise and flutter happily. “I di’n’t eat the gross egg parts, but I eated all the rest.”
“Good,” Touya says, satisfied. Then, “Your brother is a menace.”
