Because he is fine. Really, it’s nothing. It’s not that bad. He’s just tired, fatigued from the day and the racing thoughts in his head. It’s nothing he hasn’t felt on a normal day before.
It’s nothing for Mickey to worry about.
“You sure?” Mickey asks, wrapping his arms around Ian’s waist, hands trapped between Ian’s back and the couch.
“Yeah,” Ian tells him, nodding a bit. “I think so.”
He’s being honest when he says it, but that doesn’t necessarily make it true.

Something prickles at the back of Ian’s neck. “I feel fine,” he answers, shaking it off. “Why?”

He honestly doesn’t know which is more concerning. Ian hearing his dead mother just outside their cell door, or Ian thinking he’s actually trapped in here with his shithead brother instead of his boyfriend.
When Mickey doesn’t say anything, Ian turns back to the door and starts banging on it again, faster and louder than before. He doesn’t stop. The guards start to take notice.
“Jesus Christ,” Mickey mumbles, finally getting his brain to work again.
