Summary
There was something so soothing about it. The kids were giggling while playing, the waves were crashing in the background, Grace and Nahele were surfing, a cold beer in his hand, and Steve was by his side. Something that looked like tradition, like belonging—the most mundane of all things, a family day, he thought about his parents and siblings and all the traditions he left behind. But the sun was too bright he was frowning a little too much and Steve was sliding his sunglasses over his face, a practice dance, noticing small details about each other and helping wordlessly. Danny found that he didn’t mind leaving behind all those Williams traditions that raised him, not when he had ample new ones to take their place.

Danny’s eyes snapped to hers, she had such a fond look on her face, she still looked the exact same, after all these years “He was watching you sleep like you just revealed the secrets of the universe, he didn’t know what to do with his hands and every time he moved you would grumble like a baby, he ended up eating like that and soon he was asleep too” Danny drew a long breath, “I remember waking up, I tried to get up without disturbing him, and when I moved he held me so tight, I nudged at him complaining about the sun” He drained his beer, “We got more physically close after that” She scooted closer, sitting beside him, “I don’t know what to do Kono, I never felt that much, it’s killing me” He confessed in a whisper, she hugged him, “I know”
