Summary
Recently I read “Daisy Jones and the Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid and thought the interview format would be fascinating for a Queen story—especially the Rashomon effect of hearing the different points of view of the characters. I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn’t yet read it so I can’t say more. This is just my take on what a compilation of decades’ worth of interviews might look like.

Summary
Freddie has found his stage persona. Who better to share it with than Brian?
Freddie’s smile nearly lit up the tiny bedroom. “Really? You’re not too wrapped up in the stars?” He seemed amazed that Brian would “bother” with the expedition, and Brian felt a wave of cold guilt over being so occupied with his own problems that he hadn’t spent enough time with his friend. -

Summary
Freddie is dead. The whole world should be in mourning.
"Can't we just have a bit of time together? There's no one else in the world who knows how we feel except the three of us. I don't want to waste it arguing, do you?"

Summary
Brian's had a heart attack. Roger wants to help him heal.
A half-snort, half-giggle escapes Roger. It threatens to turn into something else, something reminiscent of the sickly smell of fever on a red-eye flight from New York to London. Something that reminds him of the way his hands clenched the steering wheel at the words "Don't bother coming..."

Summary
June, 1974. Freddie's visit to a convalescing Brian requires courage, love, and quick thinking.
Freddie follows Brian's gaze around the room. There's precious little of Brian in his old bedroom other than the basic furniture, no books or youthful memorabilia to make him feel welcome. It's clean, functional, and utterly impersonal apart from the few suitcases brought home from their aborted tour and the poor, lonely guitar.
Small wonder that Brian is already straining at his bonds, surrounded as he is by the evidence of what they'd lost.

To the waters and the wild,
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Summary
Brian considers giving a name to the anxiety that gnaws at his gut.
He decides against it, because he doesn’t want to get too attached.
Because it is a horrible thing, truly horrible. It squirms and burrows and nibbles. It chomps and bites and grinds. It demands space to luxuriate in his stomach and sends whatever goes down swiftly back up again. It disapproves of uncleanness and fires disinfectant through his body, which melts his fat and muscle and brain cells away.
It’s that last thing that’s the worst, because it melts enough to render him useless, but not enough for him to be unaware of the fact.
He needs to do better.

Summary
Brian couldn’t sleep in Munich.
***
Every time he laid down in that velveteen hotel room, with its stale smell of excess and regret, that song played in his head.
That fucking song.
He hated that it had become that.
That fucking song.
Because once it had been that beautiful song. That darling song. That song that he loved like a child, that song that was dripping with the essence of him, when the essence of him smelt a little less bitter. That song that took him lightyears away from the lairs of his mind, each housing its own minotaur.
