Summary
Wei Wuxian was once one of the most promising cultivators of her generation, garnering attention due to her skills and beauty, but also her arrogance, claiming that she would only marry a man who could best her in combat. The only one among her peers said to rival her is Lan Wangji, the equally accomplished and beautiful but solitary young mistress of the Lan sect. The two young women do nothing but clash, Lan Wangji opposing Wei Wuxian’s unrestrained wildness and disregard for decorum at every turn. Ignoring Lan WangJi’s warnings about the danger of walking the demonic path, Wei Wuxian reaches her downfall at an early age. Thirteen years later, Wei Wuxian reappears and stumbles back into Lan WangJi’s path, having been summoned into the body of Mo Xuanyu—a disgraced female cultivator who had disguised herself as a man in order to gain recognition from her father, a powerful sect leader. Lan WangJi, having learned from her past mistakes, resolves to keep her close and protect her.

Lan WangJi’s expression was too soft. Wei WuXian couldn’t remember anyone ever looking at her in this way, as though all Lan Wangji wished for and cared about was her well-being. It was terrifying. She had to do something to make it stop.
