Summary
Harry Potter is well settled into his life with the Malfoys and Severus. He has family who love him, friends who support him, and a Dark Lord who doesn't know what to do with him.
Lucius has been working towards having Harry's godfather Sirius released from Azkaban, and Dumbldore has employed Remus Lupin to teach Defence and there's a rat in the mix. Severus finds himself surrounded by Mararuderes once again.

Summary
Harry is street-wise and cunning, he trusts no one and has learned the hard way how to avoid a beating and stay alive. When his Hogwarts letter arrives he is naturally suspicious but Harry is a survivor and he is keen to get out of his Uncles house. He knows he is probably being manipulated but decides Hogwarts is a risk worth taking, however, he is going to do it on his own terms.
An unlikely ally points him in the direction of his mother's best friend and Harry finds that while some people are undoubtedly out to manipulate him his Housemates and his Head of House have his back.

Summary
Because the one thing Albus didn't account for, was Harry becoming Master of Death.
He didn't account for Harry learning about Tom Riddle left in an orphanage during WW2, where he was believed to be possessed by the devil.
Severus Snape in a house with Tobias Snape, a man who hurt Severus, who abused him for his magic and a mother who could not (would not) leave her husband.
He did not account for Harry's will to live, for his vindictive streak.
