**Now with beautiful artwork by the wonderful Elena @PurgatoryJar on Tumblr! Thank yooooou!!**

Ex Trumpet teacher, Dean Winchester, is celebrating his one month anniversary of running completely out of money; he lost it all, selling everything but the clothes on his back and the sleeping bag wrapped around him, to try and stay afloat. His brother, Sam, remains blissfully unaware that his proud older brother is out in the pouring rain, this late November morning, begging spare change from London's high-fliers, his fingers close to freezing off.

Despite being horrendously late, Castiel reasons that today will be the day he appears to have his life sorted out; today is the day he makes a good impression on his stupidly seductive client... that is until he's happy splashed by a bus, mere metres from the office. In that moment, he decides to give in to fate; if a whole day lazing about in his dressing gown is what the heavens want from him, who is he to decline?

Apparently, though, that's not all fate has in mind.

    Summary

Castiel Novak had known Dean Winchester his entire life. Growing up together, the two friends' worlds revolved around one another, each of them looking forward to their annual summer get togethers at the Winchesters' farm and winery, located in the rolling hills of Napa, California.

However, it only takes one night for seventeen years of friendship to all come crashing down. When Castiel confesses his feelings for Dean, his friend’s rancorous reaction sends him packing. Castiel leaves, and stays away for ten years.

When Dean’s father John falls ill, Castiel begrudgingly visits the farm again for the first time in a decade. Castiel is nervous to relive that night. He is nervous to be back at a place that holds so many memories. He is nervous to see Dean for the first time in so long.

While he grapples with his anger and hurt, he also has to grapple with the fact that the feelings he holds for Dean may still be there after all this time.

Inspired by Jennilah's adorable artwork of a tiny!cas-filled gumball machine.

Dean walks into his local bank one day and notices that someone has filled the old gumball machine with these tiny, wiggling, sentient angels in individual plastic packaging. Deeply concerned about their air supply and the fact that they're trapped there in the sun, he starts pumping in quarters to rescue them. This is worse than leaving a dog in an overheating car.

Now he's got forty of the little guys running all over his house, and god knows how many others might be trapped and dying all over the city.

“Sam, you gotta hear about this ghost story I found the other day,” Susanne says over the speakerphone, just as loud as she has been for the last half hour.

For the most part, Castiel ignores her—or tries—and concentrates on the beads dangling from between his fingers, centerpiece pressed to his forehead. Praying doesn’t work, but some mornings, when the coffee doesn’t get him going and the walls feel more like a prison than a home, he sits at the library table and whispers empty words into the crucifix, like Jesus can ease the festering ache in his chest.

He can’t—no one else can either.
