“This is retaliation for my journal… isn’t it?”
Viktor sneered as he traversed the small space to his personal desk, keeping the grin half-obscured from Jayce’s view as he reached for his own leather-bound journal where it was laid right next to Jayce’s. The plain and unremarkable facade blended in perfectly with the rest of his collection of note-taking journals, but this particular one held no ordinary research.
“Nooooo,” he drawled, voice dripping sarcasm, even to his own ears. He reached for his quill, dipping it once in the inkwell before scratching a quick Trial 36 at the top of the page. “What makes you say such a thing?”
Jayce was quiet for a moment, aside from the panting. The creak of the headboard could be heard briefly as he rearranged his bound hands.

“Do that again,” Jayce says, leaning into his grip. “Please.”
Jayce’s throat bobs against Viktor’s fingers when he swallows, still trying to catch his breath, and Viktor watches the movement with a mean glint in his eye.
“Do you truly think you’re in a position to tell me what to do?” Viktor asks, but he doesn’t drop his hand.
Jayce’s face contorts into something entirely new—something Viktor has never had the pleasure of seeing before. Flushed red with embarrassment, eyes wide, and lips bitten red and swollen. He looks desperate.
“After all that,” Viktor continues, thumb fondly stroking over his pulse, “do you think you deserve it?”
“No,” Jayce answers, a little too honest, a little too vulnerable.
Interesting.
“I think,” Viktor starts, leaning in to brush his lips over Jayce’s jaw, a tease of a touch, “you owe me an apology.”
OR: Jayce is acting odd. Viktor is determined to figure out why—for the sake of their work, of course.

Summary
He could go now, he supposes. He has spent untold centuries despising this place, and he really only needed to stay to ensure there was a universe where it wouldn’t come to be. He played his part, set things in motion. Found the one thing that could save him from himself and sent him back to do just that. Now, he should be free. He should find another world to settle in, find peace, leave this desolate land to waste away as it deserves. There is nothing left for him here.
His gaze travels down to Jayce’s hollowed figure, hands still open from relinquishing his hammer, and any thought of leaving is banished from his mind forever.
