    Summary

Kaveh has been cursed, losing his ability to use all language.

His affliction turns from frustrating to devastating when Alhaitham comes down with a disease that feeds off of unrequited love, and he doesn’t believe Kaveh returns his affections. Kaveh will have to find a way to convince him.

Kaveh reaches for Alhaitham and tries to kiss him, but Alhaitham pulls away.

"Kaveh,” Alhaitham says. “I know that bleeding heart of yours wants to save me because I’m dying, but that’s not how this works. You can’t just force yourself to fall in love with someone.”

Kaveh shakes his head vigorously. Listen to me, he wants to scream. I love you, and I need you, and you can’t leave me, don’t leave me—

    Summary

Alhaitham is hit by a magical curse that leaves him vulnerable and bereft of his memories. Naturally, he decides not to tell the kind blond man who is definitely his partner about that last part.

Kaveh has his hands full taking care of Alhaitham. Alhaitham is acting strangely, and he seems convinced that they’re in a relationship. Kaveh doesn't know how he's going to get out of this with his heart intact.

“I don’t remember anything about you,” Alhaitham admits. “Or him,” he nods at Cyno. “Or even my partner,” he says, gesturing at Kaveh.

    Kaveh chokes on air. Partner?

“Ah. Was that supposed to be a secret?”

    “We’re roommates!” Kaveh splutters.

“Right. ‘Roommates,’” Alhaitham says, with a smirk.

    Lesser Lord Kusanali, have mercy.

“Kaveh–” Alhaitham says from behind him, just as Kaveh is yanking the door open.

“Thanks for the coffee! Goodbye!” Kaveh shouts over his shoulder, not stopping to turn back as he rushes out.

Just as the front door swings closed, he thinks he hears Alhaitham cough.

Kaveh thinks Alhaitham is getting sick, even though he won't admit it.

    Summary

Kaveh used to think that Alhaitham had mastered the art of ignoring him. The man would remain unflappable as he continued to read his worn copy of The Origins of Enkanomiyan Language, even when Kaveh was a hair’s breadth away from shattering the windows of their house with his severity of pitch.

No amount of screaming, threats to throw things, or violently waving in front of him could get Alhaitham to pause in his thirst for knowledge. As it turns out, Alhaitham literally just turns his hearing aids off so he doesn’t have to listen to Kaveh.

It’s for this exact reason that Kaveh has decided to learn Sumerian Sign Language.

    or,

Kaveh learns sign language just to continue bickering with Alhaitham.

    Summary

"Wow," Kaveh said, as a senior walked by. "Look at that... there's just something about people with long hair."

Alhaitham studied the senior in question. She had hair down to her hips, and was currently laughing with some friends as she pulled it back casually into a ponytail.

Alhaitham then studied Kaveh. Kaveh looked entranced: jaw a little slack; coral eyes wide.

    "You... really like long hair?"

Kaveh startled, blinked. "Yeah, I suppose I do," he said.

Alhaitham studied the flush of Kaveh's cheeks, his unrelenting gaze. "I see," he said.

Alhaitham grows his hair out. He has been growing his hair out since they were students. It falls to his hips in a river of silver and green. Kaveh looks, and looks, and looks.
