It doesn’t matter what they’re talking about. It never has. He’d drink every word directly from Johnny’s lips if he could, but it’s not hard to settle for letting that voice slide through the air between them. The inherent ease he feels when Soap is with him is impossible to overshadow, mooring him at a safe shore, not even dampened by the sting that lights up in his chest whenever he forces himself to tamp down on the feeling.
That same ease makes something twinge between his ribs when he notices something unusual.
