All these years, Time had trusted that his Captain was out there, shining and strong and unshakeable.
Why would he have thought otherwise? The war had been won. He’d been sent home safe, and promised tearfully to see the Captain again, in the way that people who know they will never return make promises anyway.
But this quest had given Time hope for another meeting.
The Chain had been cautiously excited to meet the man from the stories, the man who’d helped their leader grow into the steady, reliable hero he was today.
They were expecting a soldier, a warrior, standing tall and proud, victorious on the battlefield.
This is a man who has seen a very different type of battle.

She pulls them into something wild and bright, where Jaskier feels like he"s fighting both the earth and the air itself to keep himself moving. There"s no music, but he swears he can hear drums. They twist together, apart. Jaskier knows the moves, he finds. He couldn"t tell you what comes in five steps, but his body moves right for the next one, and the next, and the next and so on, for ever.
Then Jaskier makes one small misstep, and kicks one of the mushrooms.
"Oops," he says, and then the earth opens up beneath him and Yennefer, and they"re falling down, down, down.
