The sparse touches and gentle pats became more frequent.
He never felt capable of making an adult so proud. Sirius didn’t know that he was capable of being so good—that he was good enough to be liked by an adult that much. The man meant so much to Sirius, that he didn’t question it when his touches began to linger.
They remained long, much longer than he had seen any adult touch a child. It made Sirius feel victorious, like he wasn’t as bad as he thought. He felt great satisfaction in how special it made him feel.
