    Grimmjow has let go of his arm by now, but Kurosaki doesn’t move. He seems frozen.

    The end of the war was silent. There were no cheers, no joy, no celebration, nothing. Just a cold realization that the war was over, but so many had been lost and the path to rebuilding Soul Society was going to a long, hard one. In the midst of it all, the 4th division has a problem. Kurosaki Ichigo is in a coma after his final battle with Yhwach, but they can't afford to lose a bed when so many are injured. Most of Soul Society is in ruins, so none of the divisions can take him in either. So what were they going to do?

    Captain Kuchiki Byakuya owes the young hero more than he will ever say and therefore, offers his Estate as a place for Ichigo to rest and heal. The new Captain Commander agrees to this proposal, but what no one knows is that there is a plot, a dangerous plot to finish off the hero once and for all. For once, the Protector will need the protecting.

    “I want your life.” There’s a smooth sound of steel on leather as he draws his sword, and Freddy’s throat goes tight. The metal has a sheen to it, like an oil slick. Looking at it turns his stomach in a way he’s never experienced before – not when he’s powered up. There’s a wrongness about it so intense that it takes him half a second to process what the guy had said.

    “What?” he says.

    “I come to this realm seeking to face the champion in combat. You will fight me, champion – to the death.”

    “Yeah, I’m,” Billy says, “not gonna do that.”

    When you're the champion, it feels like nothing can hurt you; it feels like you can fly forever. A visitor from another world. A normal night gone off the rails. An adventure turned into a nightmare.
