“Hey Rem.” He smiles as he reaches him, looking up as he does because Remus is impossibly tall and though James isn’t particularly short, they aren’t at eye-level.
And see, this is the moment in which Remus would reply 'Good morning' or 'Hey James' or even hum a soft 'Hi', a smile, a nod, anything really. Anything to acknowledge James greeting him.
Except this time, he just stares back at him blankly.
Eyes almost glassy.
Unresponsive.
That’s the first sign.
Or, Remus and James move in together. But when Remus starts acting off around James for unknown reasons, James is nothing but determined to get to the bottom of this, even if it leads to unexpected discoveries in the process.

“I’m not going to f...” The doors opened and across the room sat the most beautiful person Sirius had ever seen. He looked like the sculpture of a god. Or one of the men in Sirius’ filthiest dreams. “...fucking hell”
