Summary
Of all the things Kaveh expects to see Al-Haitham doing at home, gardening is probably near the bottom of the list. For some reason, the image of Al-Haitham tending to plants is difficult to reconcile in his mind.
In Kaveh’s memories, Al-Haitham has always liked to talk to himself since their student days. It’s as if he’s having a one-sided conversation with a voice only he could hear.
Still, he’d never expect Al-Haitham to be the type to talk to his plants.
Or: Five times Kaveh finds Al-Haitham talking to himself... or is he?

“I’m me. I promise, I’m me. You don’t like soup— you rail at me whenever I make it because you can’t eat it when you read your books. You smile at me whenever I fix your headphones for you, whenever I put a peach candy in your mouth. Alhaitham,” it sounds like Kaveh’s begging.
He should never beg.
Not when Alhaitham is going to kill him.
He's not—

Summary
Al-Haitham expels a low groan. “Sorry,” he says, blinking wetly against the light from the window.
Kaveh is half joking when he lifts his hand to Al-Haitham’s forehead and says, “Al-Haitham, did you just apologize to me? Do you have a fever?”
Kaveh expects a snarky remark, but it doesn’t come. It isn’t before he presses his palm gently against sweat-damp skin—jokingly, still—and it feels like plunging his fingers into an open fire that Kaveh realizes he hit the nail right on the head.
“Oh. You do have a fever,” he breathes, brushing Al-Haitham’s sweaty bangs out of his face. “You’re sick.”
“What an astute observation,” Al-Haitham says.
Al-Haitham develops a fever, and with it a peculiar side effect. Kaveh reaps the unexpected benefits.
