Summary
On Halloween 1980, Voldemort unknowingly stared his soulmate in the eyes and cast the killing curse. The words 'avada kedavra' formed over Harry Potter's heart, changing the course of his life forever.
Sorted into Slytherin, Harry's life at Hogwarts was miserable. At 13 he fled to Ilvermory School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and for five blissful years managed to keep his soulmate a secret, avoiding Voldemort and his war completely - until Voldemort captured him, intending to kill his prophesized enemy once and for all.
Staring death in the face, Harry played his last card: he spoke to Voldemort, activating the words on the Dark Lord's skin and revealing their connection.
Now Harry is caught in an impossible situation. Voldemort wants to form a soulmate bond so that he can access Harry's magical core, but Harry wants nothing to do with Voldemort. They strike a bargain: Harry must stay with Voldemort for one year. If a bond does not form in that time, Harry is free to go.
All Harry has to do is survive a year with a monster and keep his soul to himself. Sounds easy, right? But what Voldemort wants, Voldemort gets, and he wants Harry very, very much.
