They always ran a bit warmer then average humans, even when they weren’t wearing their fur, and it felt so relaxing to just lean into each other like that, it’s how they ended every full moon since they had found each other a few years prior.
Then he heard it.
The sound of twigs snapping softly under paws, a rustling through the undergrowth near the tree line and the feeling of something watching them.
Johnny’s head snapped up and he was on his paws again in a moment, scanning the dark for what had made the noise.
The wind blew through the forest and into the yard, carrying a musky scent that screamed wolf to him.

Summary

That was okay. They rarely saw each other, as Joel was the son of their leader, and had many important duties, and Niko was a member of the congregation, just one face among many. The only reason he was ever in the same orbit as Joel was their mutual friendship with Joonas, Olli, and Tommi, and that was fine by the both of them. They exchanged the required pleasantries, but other than that, never spoke to each other. Whenever Niko caught the lingering looks Joel gave him, they always seemed to prick him, haughty derision in Joel’s eyes, and he’d never desired any more contact with him.‘
