Summary
The first time Madara sees Senju Tobirama show any kind of emotion is when Hashirama is seconds away from committing suicide. Tobirama struggles against the Mokuton vines keeping him in place and curses Hashirama, Madara, the gods, begs his brother to stop, to just listen, begs Madara to change his request. But Madara can’t bring himself to answer, to do anything but stare as a strange feeling of unease settles in the pit of his stomach.
In the end (or the beginning, is it now, of a whole new era of shaky peace?), Madara stops Hashirama’s kunai and tells himself it’s because he can’t bear to watch his old friend die.

Summary
The war was endless, the battles in a stalemate, and the winter nearing. The signs said it'd be the coldest one yet. Madara knew that the Uchiha weren't ready and their survival was at stake if something wasn't done. Peace wasn't acceptable to most and running away wasn't their way. The only thing they had left were the old legends of their guardian deity, Amaterasu. Desperate times called for desperate measures.
If they had to summon her Beloved to survive, then so be it.
Or, the one where the winter is coming and times are grim, the Uchiha resort to desperate measures that bring unexpected results.
