Summary
Heat was not a foreign concept to Todoroki Shoto, it was an inevitability with a man like Endeavor as a father. Fire was a constant reminder of everything he loathed, the destruction and pain it brought told him he was correct in refusing to use his quirk. Using it meant letting Endeavor win, and after everything he'd done Shoto was damned if he let him get what he wanted. His mother doesn't deserve to see the second coming of that man's quirk. He wouldn't need something from him to become a hero.
Cold was another constant in his life, but it was a comfort. It was his mother's, and a power Shoto could use without harming, he could use it to cool down burns brought from "training", and shield from the flames. The cold crawling across his skin burned in a way that he could tolerate. He felt the cold crawl over him, and relished in the idea that he had not used his father's power.
And then Midoriya Izuku happened. -
