    Reo watches Nagi take the phone back and break the heart of whichever two-dimensional love interest he'd been on a date with at that moment. "The point of a dating simulator is to get them to like you, you know," Reo says as Nagi taps away at the screen.

    "I'm only interested in one of them," Nagi says. Then, by way of explanation, he adds, "The one that looks like you."

    Reo stiffens. Nagi's hand goes right to his nape, as if trying to comfort him. "Why?" Reo chokes out, thankful for once that Nagi's gaze is fixed only on his phone.

    "I'm practicing for when you and I start dating."

    "You need to stop playing that game."

    "I'm playing it because I'm sad that you won't date me," Nagi says, deadpan, as he drapes himself carefully over Reo's shoulders. "I'll stop when we start going out." Reo doesn't reply, and Nagi adds, "Hey, answer me."

    "Answer what?"

    "Go out with me."

    "No," Reo says firmly. He hoists Nagi into the air and heads for the exit, and he feels Nagi's breath stir his hair, warm and soft.

    "Why not?" Nagi asks.

    It's a good question, and Reo doesn't know how to answer. He carries Nagi out into the sun without a word, and as they reach the sidewalk, Reo tells him, "I don't want to."

    Nagi kisses the back of his neck. "You're lying," he says softly.

    (Reo's lying.)

    "I'm sorry," Reo murmurs.

    Nagi breathes silently against his back. As they reach the bike, he brushes his lips against Reo's ear and says, "It's okay, Reo."

    Tony isn't a healthy man. He's fine with that, really. It makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, he has a job to do that kind of has his health as a major requirement. So he unmakes himself, remakes the Accords, protects every single child super that enters his field of view, and hopes ferociously that the Avengers never come back to the US. He doesn't spend any time at all rebuilding Bucky Barnes' life. Not a single second. Anything he does that contributes to him is simply an accident.

    Bucky is a patient man. It's ok if Tony wants to ignore him for now. He won't be able to forever.

Things aren't exactly perfect as they try to come to terms with a completely different future and work out the feelings that they've had for each other for decades, but at least they get to figure it out together. (The MCU re-imagined with Bucky as an original Avenger)
