Summary
It came to no one’s surprise that as more and more dwarrow returned to Erebor and rediscovered the ancestral homes of their people, a resurgence of the Old Ways grew accordingly.
What wasn’t good about the return to the Old Ways was how isolationist they were. These dwarrow tried to eschew interactions with anyone outside of Erebor, tried to minimize any and all interaction with the humans of Dale, tried to espouse a Dwarrow-first viewpoint that left a sour taste in many of the Company’s mouths, especially considering the multitude of races that helped them retake Erebor in the first place.
Especially considering how their Burglar, the Hobbit responsible for so much, had chosen to make his home in Erebor.

" “Balin, wait!” Thorin called. “Have you noticed anything… strange about our burglar?”
The elder dwarf hummed in thought. “No, not really. After speaking to him about hobbit culture, I believe he is a perfectly average hobbit. Aside from his joining our quest. That’s rather scandalous in their culture, from what I understand. Why? Is there something amiss?”
Thorin couldn’t believe his most trusted advisor hadn’t noticed the things he had. Balin was one of the most observant people he knew! “Balin, he is promiscuous,” Thorin said severely. “I do not know how you haven’t noticed.” "
Or, where hobbits are a tactile folk and Thorin can't wrap his brain around it.

Summary
It has been 7 months since the great battle of Erebor and he had hoped every day that this letter would never arrive. He reached for Sting, the letter opener as his friends liked to call it. He tried to blink the tears away as he read it over and over again but the words didnt show him any mercy and remained the same cruel message. It said "Dear Master Bilbo Baggins of Bag End
I, Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thrain, son of Thror, king under the mountain hereby lift the banishment of Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, son of Bungo Baggins
Will you accept and return to Erebor, the kingdom under the mountain?
After all this time he had still hoped that they would have forgotten what he had told them about Hobbit traditions. That it was mandatory to write this letter to a banished person which states to revoke the banishment. Of course it wasn't revoked, it was just to ensure the banished acknowledges being exiled and honors the banishers wishes by replying by denying the offer to return. Dear Yavanna, they had even used the exact wording. Bilbo stood to search for a scroll and ink. He had to reply, after all he was still a honorable Hobbit of Bag End.Bookmarked by KringleTheElf04
