“Midoriya calls me love.”
“He calls you—” Ashido's eyes got wide before she started screeching. The rest of her sentence became indistinguishable. Shouto winced. She started jumping up and down. Even Kaminari looked chipper from where he was on the floor. “That’s too cute! When did he start saying it? How often does he say it? Does he say out and about, or does he say it more at home? I can’t believe this! Do other people know?”
“A few weeks ago, often, yes, mostly, no,” Shouto replied, thinking he got all of her questions with that. Ashido didn’t apparently seem to care, squealing some more and whipping out her phone.
“This is going in the group chat. This is amazing.” She paused. “You don’t mind if we tell others?”
That Shouto’s fake boyfriend called him love, now why would he have a problem with that?

“Kacchan! I have to help him!” Katsuki went cold all over.
“No! No fucking way!” Katsuki’s hands tightened around Izuku’s shoulders.
“Kacch-“
“No Izuku! I’m not letting you do this!” Katsuki yelled shaking Izuku roughly. Green eyes locked onto Katsuki’s red ones.
And Katsuki knew… He knew that the determination shining in Izuku’s eyes meant that there was no stopping him. Katsuki’s heart plummeted, his eyes starting to sting. Izuku slowly brought his hand up, laying it lightly over Katsuki’s cheek.
“He’ll die Kacchan.” Izuku whispered, his voice begging for Katsuki to understand. And he did! He did understand. And he hated the fact that he did. “I have to do this.”

Izuku had been hiding his quirk his entire life. He Had to, because his life quite literally depended on it.
But secrets could only last so long...Katsuki knew that he needed to keep Izuku's quirk hidden from everyone if he wanted to keep his best friend safe.

Summary
While graduating from UA, Katsuki swears he can feel his classmates and the friendship that comes with them dragging him down and away from his dream; the number one hero spot. He makes the executive decision to cut everyone off until he's climbed the ranks, convinced they'll all understand because of his motivation.
Shouto never thought he'd stand a chance with Izuku, even as close as they are, because of Bakugou. When Bakugou ghosts the class and Izuku doesn't chase him, instead choosing to accept that he's unwanted by his childhood friend and moving on with his life, Shouto realises his chances might not be as slim as he thinks.
Maybe, Izuku thinks, it’s time to stop chasing someone who doesn’t want to be caught, and focus on the people who never ran from him in the first place.

Iida choked on his orange juice, putting the cup down quickly and wiping his face with a napkin. He took off his glasses and cleaned them before putting them back on his face, adjusting them a few times before looking at Shouto weirdly. “Ah.” He shook his head a few times. "For a minute I thought that you made a…" He trailed off. "Never mind."
