It felt like his head was about to burst. His body was cold and clammy, and his joints seemed stiff and misaligned. The room he was in was cramped but private, probably a bedroom tucked away in the back of a house. The morning light filtered weakly through the window, where he can see the tops of giant trees and the sun crawling its way above the horizon. The distant sound of birds chirping was the only sound that cut through the silence.
The man in front of him was gripping onto Kaveh’s hand tightly, feverishly warm and trembling ever so slightly. He looked familiar too. Grey hair, that coat, those piercing eyes… “Al-Haitham?” Kaveh whispered, his voice frail.
