It was him saying Sid and I that did it. Andy said Sid and I, and it didn’t just dawn on Nate that Andy and Sid were fucking: moreso the realization slammed into him like a truck doing one-twenty down the highway.
“You’re fucking,” he said, like an idiot.
“Yeah, I mean, we’re married, so,” Andy replied. “I guess, yeah. We’re fucking.”

Sid was winning. He had won. The adrenaline of holding the Stanley Cup over his head and the rush of kissing Andy tasted the exact same. All those looks, those touches, those years of Andy counting his heartbeat and showing him how to cook a chicken breast and naming all the bones in Sid’s body, all those quiet moments where they sat pressed up against each other and didn’t say anything at all were building to this victorious moment where they could finally have each other.

I wouldn’t normally read a story with Sid/Nate but I am so glad I did because this story is so real with embarrassing and disgusting detail and also completely saturated with love. There’s an established relationship, which I love reading, but sometimes those stories can be boring because they’re just about grocery shopping or whatever and this has the outsider POV of someone who is being drawn into the relationship.

But this wasn’t like a fight on the ice—tempers boiling over, hot rage spilling out everywhere—cathartic, necessary, even if it got him sent down the tunnel. This was different. There was nothing here to push back against, no way to assert his own will. In a little while Crosby would come to him, and Zhenya would open the door and let him in. Crosby would feed from him, taking what he wanted from Zhenya’s body.
And then they would be bound.
