Summary
The last time Jason and Tim interacted for any prolonged amount of time was when Jason beat Tim to a pulp in Titans Tower. Then Tim gets hit with cuddle pollen and the antidote isn"t working. It"s no problem he"ll ride it out alone in one of Batman"s safe houses, and Jason has the same idea with a gunshot wound. The two are forced to face each other and their own assumptions.

It’s barely audible, but he knows what he heard. A short, four-note whistle, chirping down – E, C#, then jumping up to A, F#, a little trill on the finish. He waits a moment, head turned slightly towards the dim shapes of storage containers between him and the ramp, eyes straining against the blackness. Long, stretching seconds.
There it is again. His gloved hand, prickling with cold, closes into a fist.
It’s a wood thrush. A small North American songbird that doesn’t sing at night, doesn’t live in the city. He knows what it means. It means hold, steady, not yet. It means wait for me, I’m behind you.

Jason hasn"t always been at odds with his family, and his love for literature hasn"t always been limited to reading it. An accidental concussion sets off a series of events that lead him back to both—eventually.
Writing is surprisingly cathartic.

Summary
An ~UtRH AU that follows the events of A Death in the Family and diverges from canon at some point during Lost Days (pre that scene, which is most definitely not a part of this AU). Survival Instincts starts out after Jason has been in Gotham for several months. His plans to establish himself in the Gotham underworld have run into some snags and his motivations are in flux.

Summary
Red Hood was only active for a handful of months when Joker was killed. The unnatural rage that had burned within him smothered considerably, causing his plans of revenge on the Bats to come to a screeching halt. This leaves his family still unaware of his living status.
With the thought of returning to his family seeming laughably impossible, Jason resigns himself to existing solely as Red Hood. It was fine. It would be easier if he stopped trying to form new bonds with his old family as Hood. It would be a hell of a lot easier if he wasn’t trying to parent an estranged Robin.
Like Jason said, it was fine.
He’ll figure it out.
Or: Jason slowly realizes that he missed being part of a family. He does something about it. Kind of.

"M-My dad said you, you’d,” the kid says, swallowing. “That if I didn’t, that if I didn’t behave, he’d sell me to you. And you, you would…”
The shock burns away immediately; the ashes condense into a murky, muted sort of rage.
He stays still for a long moment, then pulls himself up against the wall. “Okay,” he says monotonously, taking a step toward the kid, and the kid- flinches. He flinches.
Jason reels back, not speaking yet, not trusting himself not to yell. And when he does speak, he says:
“Come on, kid. Let"s go say hi to your dad."
