As the doctor leaves and Declan begins to cry, it occurs to Ronan how serious the situation is. And it is not the coma itself that is the worst for the man. Worst of all is the thought that he was to remain in this state, maybe for decades, trapped solely with his own thoughts, powerless, unable even to turn off his last sense, which after a while could prove to be a curse. For a dreamless sleep he could endure, but not the purgatory he is currently in.

"Size?" queries Adam.
Sure, he might as well have assumed the man was an average size, but he couldn't help tormenting the poor guy.
OR: When Ronan walked into Adam's pharmacy, the man didn't expect him to become a regular customer who buys huge amounts of condoms almost every day. The blush on Ronan's face doesn't indicate that he met a sex demon, but Adam begins to suspect that Ronan Lynch is hiding something.

Ronan prayed exactly as he existed: chaotically, quickly, thoughtlessly. He spit out words of prayer just like curses, making them sound dirty, even if his intentions were sincere. The only exceptions to the prayer were the big requests: what he couldn't get out of his own dreams, so he had to ask God. Then the middle brother would go alone to the Church of St. Agnes, kneel in the first pew from the altar and lay his head on one of the benches so that he could collect his thoughts. "What position do you want me?" asks Ed, not taking his eyes off the blond man. In fact, Stede is more than certain that this question - ostensibly about the pose in which the model is to remain still - was not spoken in this context at all.
