There was a time, when he was younger and held his life in much higher regard, that the idea of loving someone enough to lay his life down in payment for theirs seemed like the ultimate display of devotion and love.
But it’s not.
The phrase is so passive, so resigned. It is an offer, one that leaves room to be accepted or denied upon Death’s whim. And Izuku comes to learn, one spring afternoon, that his sacrifice is not an offer. His is a demand.
He will die for them.

“What the fuck!” The hero bites his lip as he stares up at him before turning away and looking back down into the darkness. “You know, I’m qualified to be a teacher, so technically speaking my Agency could be a pseudo hero school.”
