He was tall, and he wore an expensive-looking coat. His eyes were a deep, crystal blue, wrinkled lightly at the corners as if someone had just told him a joke. They held Adam’s gaze with a curiosity that verged on recognition. His mouth was quizzical, on a knife’s edge of smiling. Adam felt suddenly as if all the breath had been knocked out of him.

He couldn’t believe that he was going to die in a fucking bathroom, surrounded by death and the smell of shit. His future had never been particularly bright, but this was a little ridiculous. He sighed, the wheeze of it tearing at his throat. Even if he had managed to get out of there, there wasn’t much for him to go back to- his landlord had been hounding him for late rent for months now, and Adam didn’t have the money for him. That’s what he’d taken the damn stalker job for.
A hysterical laugh bubbled up in his throat. He was about to die, and he was stressing out about fucking rent. Stupid.
