Summary
The Cardassian had recognized it for what it was, the deflection of a trained liar. He wondered if he had been made, his cover blown. If he would wake in a Cardassian cell, if he awoke at all. Julian had surprised him, but the Cardassian had not rushed to leave. He had been calm, collected, and he had paused before he left to make sure he kept the upper hand. Julian felt a ghost of anxiety run its fingers down his spine and wondered if he had managed to be very foolish indeed.

Summary
Julian doesn't think about it much these days. Why should he, when it's been so long?
But when he does, if he does, well—he considers it part and parcel of Garak, that's all. Disconcerting at first, a little invasive. Awfully close to a line but not quite crossing it, and leaving Julian with absolutely no idea what he's meant to do in response. Garak in microcosm, summarized in a single unexpected gesture.
(Or: Julian has always thought Garak just had a weird little habit. Until another Cardassian does the same thing to him, and seems to imbue the gesture with a meaning Julian really had not anticipated.)
