Summary
The forest is quiet and serene; the rush of a river from not too far away and the noises of owls, the singing of insects, all mixed with Genya’s uneven breathing, crouched by a low-hanging branch. The area around him is surrounded by fog, hiding the roots of the trees and stones nearby. His fingers tighten on the shotgun in his grip, the familiar weight helping ground him into reality instead of the literal demon in his head, eyes on the sharp claws extended from his fingers.
Stay human.
The words echo in his head, a constant reminder from Gyomei, a constant reminder from himself.
Stay. Human.
The taste of demon flesh--demon blood--lingers on his tongue, the craving gnawing at him, threatening to tear apart whatever scraps of humanity he still has, the small parts he does have he clings to desperately, clings to like he has nothing left to hold onto.

Summary
Genya bites his cheek, quickly loading the gun with the shells and snapping it closed for the final time, mindlessly shoving the rest of his bullets in his pocket and flicking the safety on and off, making sure to keep his finger off the trigger.
Despite the beautiful atmosphere, Genya wishes he weren’t here.

Summary
He stares at the hand dumbly before he blinks and lowers it, looking at Sanemi. The man, his brother, the aggressive Wind Hashira, the person that almost the entire corps was afraid of… Was helping him. He stares at his brother with furrowed brows, opening his mouth and closing it as he straightens his lips, confused.
After trying to blind Genya, Sanemi is helping him.
Is this his way of apologizing? He doesn't know. Isn't sure. But he lets it happen. He lets Sanemi fix his posture and grip on the wooden sword, before walking over and grabbing a discarded wooden one on the ground. “Follow these movements. Don't fuck it up.”

Summary
Obanai had always seen the way Sanemi carried himself with all of his scars and admired that confidence and strength. He found himself staring at those scars in admiration of the possible backstories behind each one. The staring soon got out of control, as most things do. Obanai finds himself drawn to the wind pillar, captivated by his beauty he hadn't fully appreciated earlier.
Obanai had no idea how far gone he was for Sanemi until a man joins the pillars. Obanai watches as the new man seemingly steals Sanemi from him with the way they instantly hit it off.
The next morning, Obanai is woken up by a flower petal crawling up his throat.
