Summary
An ill-fated parent teacher conference reunites Jin Ling"s wayward uncle with Sizhui"s father. AKA: A matchmaking disaster as told by Jin Ling, Sizhui, and Jingyi.
Jin Ling knows he’s in deep trouble even before reporting to Headmaster Lan’s office, but the words “your uncle will be here soon” still strike the fear of God in him. His only consolation is that Jingyi and Sizhui’s guardians are also in the office, Jingyi’s mom already lecturing her sheepish-looking son. Lan-ayi only stops when Sizhui’s father, a quiet and tall man in white, clears his throat, causing her to engage him in one-sided smalltalk.
This is a disaster. Jin Ling had spent such a nice break at home for Mid-Autumn Festival, and Fairy’s presence had soothed his homesickness after returning to boarding school in Gusu. He knows pets aren’t allowed, but who is going to report Jin Ling when his father pays good money for a private suite in the dorms? Then there was the incident with Jingyi, a box of mooncakes, and a door left ajar. Long story short, he spent an hour chasing Fairy down the halls with Sizhui and Jingyi before finding his dog nosing up to a very angry Headmaster Lan.

Usually he was a dare type of a person, however in his current state – a highly pleasant state which he wanted to prolong for as long as possible – he didn’t feel like getting up and doing things, and putting effort into anything.
Might as well answer a damn question.
“Would you rather meet the girl of your dreams, plan your life with her however you’d want and live happily ever after… or continue living with Wangji-xiong?”
Pause.
“What kind of question is that.”
Or, during a game of truth or dare, Wei Ying tries to form an image of a perfect woman in his head, but only an image of his best friend appears. Weird.

Yibo’s face softened as he recalled the days when they could still go out on a normal date together — to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, to see a movie, or even to just take a walk without an entourage, without all the elaborate decoys and deceptions to throw off pursuing fans. Long-ago memories replayed in his mind: Xiao Zhan laughing in his ear as they rode off on Yibo’s motorcycle to nowhere special; Xiao Zhan reclining in the grass; Xiao Zhan kissing him outside under a full moon. His throat tightened, and a deep feeling of loss overwhelmed him.

Yibo couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment he fell in love with Xiao Zhan. If he had to put a moment to it, it was probably that very first day when he met him for the second time. Yibo hadn’t laughed so hard in… he couldn’t remember. The best part of it was watching Xiao Zhan laugh, too. His laugh was so genuine, coming out from the core of him. When he laughed his whole face lit up, his eyes crinkling, smile bright enough to shine out the sun. And Yibo’s heart just flopped over in his chest. It made him smile and laugh even louder, their laughter infectious.
Yibo fell in love with that feeling. That wild joy that came from abandoning whether or not he looked cool and just giving in to the moment. "I’ll do anything to keep him close to me," Yibo thought, that very first day.

The stranger pressed the sword onto his neck harder.
“Either you kneel now and I save him, or we can keep doing this and risking his life in each breath you waste.” Wei Wuxian raised his eyebrows, “Your choice.”
The stranger looked back, to another stranger who resembled him so much, might have been born from the same womb, bleeding from his abdomen to almost faint. He looked back at Wei Wuxian and then sheathed his sword with resentment in his eyes.
The physician lifted his chin with a small smirk when the stranger did kneel in front of him, dirtying his pristine robes, degrading his esteem.
“That’s not so hard, is it?” The physician chuckled, “Now, A-Yuan, bring the poor man inside.”
(“Breaking news! Breaking news! Emperor Jin raised the award for Twin Jades’ heads into three thousand and four hundred gold taels!” The newsman shouted in the middle of the pathway.)
