Summary
“I can turn straw into gold,” a child insists. His face is smeared with dirt, tears dried and sticky on his cheeks, but his iris’ are the color of the sky and his hands are clenched into fists. The other kids laugh at him and kick more dirt up at his small body, sneer, and tear into him with cruel words.
“Gold?” a porcelain smiley-faced figure questions, kneeling before the child and offering out a hand. His face is hidden, his voice is dripping with amusement and greed, but Tommy takes the hand of the first person that has listened since his parents died.
“He can spin straw into gold?” the emperor questions, a great being with wings of smoke and death and eyes as cold as ice. His twin sons laugh like a funny joke has been told, identical pairs of tusks gleaming in the light of the throne room, and a challenge is set.
Three days. A room of straw.
A story that will be spoken about for eons.

Summary
Once upon a time. That is how these stories normally start, right? A prince locked in a tower, separated from everyone and everything; Forbidden from stepping foot outside of the castle walls. He’s surrounded by maids and servants, but they can’t make up for the cold hole in his soul. If Prince Tommy asked for it then he got it. But he knew he could never have what he truly wanted.
A fateful encounter one night will have him rethinking his life. Rethinking everything he knew. Rethinking everything he ever learned.
When Tommy is whisked away from his home, kidnapped by the neighbor kingdom, he doesn’t expect to find himself falling in love with the kingdoms people- nor the royal family. Yet that’s what happens, and he finds himself stumbling through foreign culture and unfamiliar halls.
OR
Tommy learns how to love himself in the most unconventional way, in a foreign kingdom and with the help of the people who kinda maybe technically kidnapped him.

Summary

Tommy has to learn the hard way a lesson about personhood, or rather, what does it feel to lack it. But maybe it's not all bad. Maybe it is not so horrible to be a dog - to say this is who I am, and that it didn't make anything you did to me fair or just.
Aka. exploration of Tommy's nonhumanity caused by trauma.

Summary
Tommy was sent to gather his belongings from the room he had been staying in since he began his hero training. Walking down the halls of the hero dorms he couldn’t help but catch a few glances from passing heroes.
Real heroes.
The kind Tommy had wanted to become. Sadly fate wasn’t in his corner, instead, it spat down on him, evident in the downpour of rain that pelted him as he walked to find cover. The words of the hero who mentored him rang loud through his mind.
“Can’t be trained, huh?” Tommy snarked to no one as he sat, waiting for a bus, “I’ll show them.”
The bus ride to a nearby hotel had been filled with plots to show the hero league he was more than capable of becoming a top hero, but only one seemed to stick in the back of his mind. He wasn’t hero material yet? Well, that’s just fine. He would do the next best thing.

Tommy was a hero in training until he wasn't. The urge to prove the heroes wrong and show them just how useful he can be takes over. That is until a certain group of villains, believing him a new hero, capture him.Bookmarked by I_read_books_rox
