‘He’s still our precious little brother, please take care of him.’ a line from a letter from a person dearest to their hearts rang in Ace’s mind. Ace felt at peace.
‘I’m protecting him, Sabo...’
The next thing that happened felt like a dramatic slow-motion, Luffy slowly looked up and Ace could feel the heat from the lava on his back.
The magma touched his back, sizzling, burning, smothering.
Suddenly Ace felt someone grabbing him by his waist and the painful burning feeling lessened. The next second felt like a whirlwind of luck and action as his body was hauled away and he could see the shock on the magma bastard’s face.
“Ah!” Luffy cried out, something that re-triggered Ace’s protective instinct.
“Made it on time!” their savior shouted before all three of them barrelled onto the ground into a lousy heap of adrenaline.
The familiar stranger pulled them both into a tight hug. “I’m sorry, I’m really sorry. But this is not the place to talk right now.”

Summary
Sengoku taught Garp that his job and life don't just revolve around Roger and his crew of misfits and Garp mildly agreed to that.
Roger realized the change so late and he rushed to make himself relevant to Garp again.
If anyone were to tell Rayleigh that there will come the day they'd chase after a marine who genuinely wanted nothing to do with them, he'd laugh in their face and toss them to the ocean. Well, he couldn't laugh anymore now.
Or in short: Garp stopped chasing after Roger so Roger made it his mission to make him return to their old habit, even if it means he had to be the one doing the chase now.

Summary
In which, Luffy's plan to "Stay quiet, silent and don't make a commotion" proceeded smoothly. Or to say more bluntly, when he did not make any sounds, it's easy to overlook the rubber boy. But eh, Ace is not complaining, though it will forever be a mystery to him how Luffy could sneak in... Or HOW they even managed to get out.
