Living in 2050 isn't exactly a dream for Julie Molina. If the thick, chemical smog and constant monitoring by corporations wasn't enough to make her long for an escape, the loss of her mother has left her completely withdrawn from what's left of the world. But when she wins the chance to test HGC's newest virtual reality game she can't resist the chance to try it out. Most of the lucky few who are testing it are using the opportunity to explore fantastical worlds or experience what it would be like to have superpowers but Julie opts for her own city of LA, just decades earlier. At first she's only amazed at how real everything feels but when she runs into three characters who don't seem to play by the rules of the game she starts to realize something might be off.
