Summary
“You must be Beatrice.”
Beatrice can’t hide the surprise on her face. She feels her eyebrows rise almost into her hairline, then realizes she probably resembles an oxygen starved fish, and forces her mouth shut and head to nod. She isn’t sure what it is about this woman that has rendered her momentarily speechless. Being lost for words isn’t typically what Beatrice is known for. She works in an environment that requires quick thinking and intelligence, but right now, simple cognitive processes evade her.
The woman smiles at her again, her teeth white and straight, and steps closer to hold out her hand.
“It’s really nice to finally meet you.” She says, eyes shining. “I’m Ava.”
//
or, Beatrice returns home after years away, and Ava is the new groundskeeper on the enormous Young estate.

But there’s rumors the two aren’t really dating… and Beatrice can’t seem to keep her eyes to herself.

Summary
“A virgin of faith…” She whispered, mostly to herself.
“What do you believe in, Beatrice?”
Beatrice turned her neck slowly. She felt the color drain from her face as the implication of this conversation dawned on her. But the notion was too huge, too gigantic, far too big for Beatrice to acknowledge right then. So, she answered as truthfully as she could, her words coming out in an uncharacteristic stutter, but sounding like music to her ears.
“I believe in Ava.”
//
Or, Beatrice undertakes a new mission to get Ava back.

Summary
Ava’s mouth drops open. “Me? I’d have to move out? No way. I’m basically built into the woodwork at this point.” She jabs a finger at Bea. “You jump, I jump. What’s that one line you like, from Ruby?”
“Ruth,” Bea corrects quietly. “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you,” she quotes. “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.”
Ava nods with an air of finality. “You’re my forever-roomate, Beatrice. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay.”
Bea smiles, eyes on the floor for a moment before they meet Ava’s. “Okay. I suppose I can live with that.”

Summary
The photo underneath the headline catches Ava's attention before she can figure out what she’s looking at. It’s a landscape shot of a lighthouse sitting atop a cliff and silhouetted against a bold sunset, its beacon lit. It looks like it’s at the end of the world, surrounded by rocks and the sea.
She frowns.
The ad is for a relief lighthouse keeper. She tentatively scrolls down to look at the duties and requirements, fully expecting to find that she’s unsuited for the job.
Except she’s kind of… perfect for it?
Unmoored, a little lost, and always impulsive, she thinks fuck it and spends the next three hours fixing her resumé, digging for her certification details, and writing an overly enthusiastic cover letter.

Summary
Ava drifts, flitting from one formless place to another, catching glimpses of vaguely familiar faces, hearing things she has heard before—please don’t leave me, I don’t want you to die.
Beatrice so rarely asks her for anything, and Ava hates that she couldn’t even give her this one thing. The least she can do is go back.
Preferably alive.

Summary
“This is a terrible plan.”
“Well, it’s all we’ve got,” Ava said, pulling the oversized sweatshirt she’d been wearing over her head and throwing it aside, aware it was bound to catch on the window somehow if she didn’t. A part of her hoped Bea was looking as she revealed the bare arms underneath, flexing them under the pretence of limbering up. “Now, give me a boost.”
OR
There theoretically might be better ways to spend your Saturday night than locked in the university library with the hot hockey player you've been noticing non-stop for months, but Ava wouldn’t be interested.

Summary
Firefighters know the importance of good water pressure. Or, at least, that's what Ava would tell the crew when they asked why she always took a shower at the station.
The water pressure at Ava's apartment was shit, and the station always had hot water. So, every night, every morning, and sometimes, randomly in the middle of the day, Ava would take full advantage of the facilities.
Except that wasn't the whole truth. They really were great showers, sure, but the real reason Ava carefully planned every time she showered was what Ava was doing right now.
Sometimes, if Ava got the timing right and said just the right things, she could convince someone to join her in the shower.
So, tonight, during her second shower of the day, Ava was pressed against and three fingers deep inside one Lieutenant Beatrice Lin-Watson while the rest of their crew was obliviously watching Sharknado: The 4th Awakens across the firehouse.
Here's how Ava managed it.
