Summary
Felix and Chan sat on opposite ends of the large, yellow sofa, and tried not to think about the space that stretched between them. Felix sat with his legs crossed, his hands tucked between his thighs to keep them from fidgeting, and he bit his lip repeatedly throughout the appointment. Chan was sitting with his elbows propped on his knees, his head resting on his hands … and he stared emptily ahead, stone still, blinking every few seconds. Across from them, their therapist was calmly taking notes in her green, leather-bound journal.

Summary
Minho was miserable, and Chan knew that. But, he didn’t talk and didn’t give the appearance of someone who would want to talk, so Chan never brought it up. Minho showed up to work every day and did well, smiling bleakly at the other boys’ jokes and teasing, and doing exceptionally well at his job. Chan had no idea what the boy’s life was like outside of work, and he had no right to even wonder about it.
But … Minho often locked eyes with Chan across the restaurant and the world could be burning around them, but there were libraries of words in Minho’s eyes and Chan was starving for them. It felt like Minho was dying to communicate but never actually taking that step … always looking away first or managing to move away quicker so they never bumped into one another. It left Chan feeling empty, panicked … a stranger feeling he’d never felt.
What the hell was going on with him?

Summary
Facing him, fast asleep, hair tussled on his pillow, lay Chan, his face still peaceful with sleep, his cheeks puffy, eyelids fluttering gently, and mouth parted slightly. His bare shoulders and chest usually made Hyunjin startle and blush, but that was not the focus of his attention this morning.
Hyunjin’s five-month-old daughter lay in Chan’s arms, her body snuggled up to his chest and her arms reaching up to his face as she slept. Her little maroon sleeper was slightly wrinkled and twisted up from her restless night, her dark hair splayed in every direction on Chan’s pillow, she sighed softly and snuggled gently closer to the older man, her fingers tightening in their little fists. Her lips parted into a pout and moved in a pulsing rhythm; she was dreaming of a bottle. Hyunjn sighed at the sight and took a mental picture, saving it forever.

Summary
It was the first day of classes. Hyunjin walked through the corridor, a crumpled class schedule in one hand and an infant carrier in the other as he looked for the right classroom. The baby was asleep, snugly in her blanket, a pacifier secured in her tiny mouth. Hyunjin’s mother had assured him that if he timed it all correctly and made sure she was fed and dry before arriving at school, then she was so young that she would most likely sleep through his entire class that morning. While that did soothe his fear, it did nothing to patch the boring hole in his heart.

Summary
It was just past 9 pm when Minho’s key jingled in the door and Chan felt some of his anxiety release into the night air. Whatever big, mean, and scary monster he was about to face was easier to face with Minho there. Everything was easier with Minho there.
He didn’t look up when the other boy silently toed his shoes off and hung up his bag by the door. He could feel Minho’s eyes on him, but couldn’t bring himself to say anything yet, still too scared to give it a name, to voice his concerns out loud. If he said these things … they became a real, live monster, a being he then had to wrestle with. He wanted it to stay in his head for a little longer. Please … just a little longer.
