Summary
Sirius’s grin gets bigger, turning into a chuckle. Shaking his head he says, “We would make a damn fine looking couple wouldn’t we?”
Marlene perks up, smiling wider herself. “So you’re in?”
“Why the fuck not?” Sirius shrugs and laughs some more.
Sirius holds out his hand and Marlene takes it in an instant, grip firm and steady as they shake. This is the best idea they’ve had all week.
--
or: Marlene and Sirius decide to go to the Yule Ball together when the people they actually wanted to take, both find someone else. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

Summary
He was tall in a way that it almost looked awkward. Like if his legs and torso hadn’t realized that they should have stopped growing at some point. He was wearing brown corduroy trousers and what must have been the ugliest cardigan ever known to man. It was knitted in a mixture of way too many colors, none of them matching. On it there were large pockets with some horrendous embroidery on them of, what even was that, ducks? If it was then they looked like they had been melted and were suffering badly. Poor ducks.
Sirius stopped scanning the guy’s body and looked up at his face. He inhaled sharply and cursed silently in his head.
Fuck.
He was very pretty. Not really in an obvious way but in more in a Sirius-would-like-to-lick-his-whole-face kind of way. Golden freckled skin, sharp lines and pink lips. Long dark eyelashes and deep brown eyes that widened slightly when they locked with Sirius’s.

Summary
They haven’t even been driving an hour. James is obnoxiously singing along to “You Shook Me All Night Long” after begging his mum to let him connect his phone to the car radio, and Lily tries to muffle the ruckus by covering his mouth with her hand. He licks it with no hesitation while still not missing a word of the song, and she snatches it back, repulsed by the audacity. He yells the chorus in her face as she fights a smile. Sirius drums his hands to the beat on the back of Monty’s seat as he pleads to have control of the music next. Monty looks at him in the rearview mirror, wrinkles forming around his eyes.
The warmth and laughter in the car contrasts the biting chill of late October.
The truck comes out of nowhere.

Summary
The door swings shut behind them, blocking out the howling wind and the bitter chill and instead there's a gently crackling fire and a patchwork sofa and layers and layers of tapestry rugs spread out over an old oak floor. The air is so toasty Sirius could weep, and he can smell chocolate and woodsmoke and something that might be peppermint, and then someone is taking his coat and grinning at him and he thinks, maybe, he did die out there on the icy roads. Maybe this is his own personal Elysium, and as he blinks stupidly at the man in front of him and takes in his freckles and his hat-flattened curls and the way his jumper has little knitted reindeer woven into the pattern, he thinks death maybe isn't so bad, actually.
Remus is the owner of a Christmas tree farm deep in the New Forest. Sirius is a curmudgeonly writer who doesn't believe in Christmas. It's snowing, there's a roaring fire, and we all know how this is going to go.

Sirius makes the morally dubious decision not to correct Remus when he awakens with no memory and assumes that they're together.
