Within them, lives the Beast of humanity’s darkest nature as the vampire’s instinct. Boredom breeds cruelty. Generations of domination and brutality become law, from the noblest clan to the lowest. Love corrodes into betrayal. Power corrupts. Whispers speak of the Final Nights, as something more than vampires stirs in the night.
In these, the longest nights of Wormwood, light can only exist in darkness.

“It's like you,” Morrigan quipped. She watched Eilonwy’s cheeks take on a reddish hue before she realised her mistake, then jabbered, “The cooing, you see. The incessant cooing. That is what I mean. It also nests directly on the ground, with no care for its safety, as if it has no regard for trees. I found this one in the shade of the chantry instead of in nature where it belonged. I suppose you only saw trees for the first time when you left your tower, yes?”
