Summary
When Hank arrived home from a long day at work, he generally expected to grab a beer, reheat whatever leftovers he had in the fridge, and relax in front of the TV for the rest of the night. Maybe he and Connor would take Sumo for a walk, or they might further Connor’s TV education. Either way, he expected something normal.
What he didn’t expect was to walk in the door and find Connor standing by his record player. Now that wasn’t exactly unusual on its own; they sometimes listened to music together on Hank’s better days, and Connor was pretty much fascinated with his records on any day that ended in ‘y’. No, what really made Hank stop and stare and choke on his saliva was the fact that Connor wasn’t wearing anything except skintight underwear. Anything. Including his damn skin.

Hank walks in on Connor with his chassis bare, it leads to some interesting revelations.

Ear-burning, forthright truths revealed rarely, randomly, and in the tones of a comment on the weather: Miles’ specialty. Phoenix is about to melt from the inside out. It’ll create a horror scene (in the name of love) and result in a stain that Mr. Soriel will never be able to fully get out, but then, a curiosity eats through all of that, leaving nothing behind except the question: “Wait. What happened in 2024?”
And Miles says, “I’m not telling you.”
Phoenix and Miles take a trip to the tailors to get adjustments made ahead of their wedding. Something passes between them that, deep down, they already know, and a spontaneous decision gets made. Written for the Right Words nrmt zine.
