Gibbs all but sprinted up to the car. At this distance, he could see it was Tony, with his long spiky hair, in the front seat. Unmoving. White was in the back, bullet hole in his throat, clearly dead. Hopefully the sole source of the blood.

Summary
Zuko and the Gaang arrive at Ember Island after the events of The Southern Raiders (book 3 e 16). Zuko is still having trouble feeling like part of the group, even though Toph, Sokka, Aang, and Suki are warm and friendly towards him. Katara is still a little stand-offish, and it's making him nervous. At his family's beach house, the last few weeks catch up with Zuko. He hides injuries and sickness from the others, but only until he collapses while training Aang. Katara and the others take turns taking care of him, though of course Katara does the most. Vulnerability and friendship-building ensue. Ends just before the curtain goes up on the Ember Island Players' production of The Boy in the Iceberg.

Summary
"A perplexed look joined the hurt, anger, and confusion on his face. “What does that have to do with anything?” He demanded. His words still hurt, but it was obvious that the bite in them was a mask for how he was really feeling.
“I - I tried to heal you, but ... it - you weren’t injured - you didn’t bump your head. It wasn’t physical damage, it was...” Katara paused, incredibly uncomfortable. “... It was your memories. All your worst memories.” She paused again. “And I ... I saw them.”
Zuko could feel flames itching to escape from his palms. His fire was always strongest when he was emotional, and the news that Katara, his former enemy, and someone who he was desperately trying to earn the trust of, had witnessed all of his weakest, most damaging, traumatic moments - had seen him at his most vulnerable, most shameful, was an emotional slap in the face. He was thankful that his wrists were tied.
Instead of fire, he channeled his anger into a loud, biting, “WHAT?!” He tasted smoke in his mouth. A little fire did escape after all."
Katara thinks Zuko has a head injury and tries to heal him. In doing so, she has access to all of Zuko’s memories, and they aren’t happy.Bookmarked by Handl3
