Applause broke out amid the Court, and Rhaenyra smiled at her. A full, unguarded smile. Alicent did duck her head then, her face redder than the Keep, but her father did not notice this time.

Summary
Rhaenyra had by no means mastered the interpretation of Helaena’s dragon dreams but some were more clear than others. Summer was slipping into Autumn. Winter would not be so far and it could last a very long time. Both Silverwing and Vermithor were known to hibernate in hiding while the cold persisted. Syrax had not yet laid a new clutch, perhaps sensing Rhaenyra was now highly unlikely to bear another child. If Aemond were to claim his dragon he must do it now or potentially miss his window for good.
Convincing Alicent had been a small ordeal, but ultimately she’d agreed, demanded to journey with them. Rhaenyra did not protest. She was in fact delighted at the prospect.
Arrangements were made within a week. Rhaenyra settled her most pressing duties, delegating the rest for her time away. Alicent and Aemond set sail for the two day voyage. Rhaenyra took flight on Syrax early in the morning. To Dragonstone.

“Does the King command it?” Alicent interrupted. Echoing words once spat at her.
“He feels it is a good idea and…he will command it if I ask him. But I am asking you. I have informed my father that I would like you to agree or it will not proceed. We are asking for a period for them to spend time together. If after that period you do not consent to the betrothal I will honor your wishes.”
(1x06 fix-it if the betrothal between Helaena and Jacaerys tentatively went forward and Alicent and Rhaenyra were forced to spend time together and communicate)

Rhaenyra takes a sip of her drink, eyes searching across the room. Alicent is sitting on the plush sofa in the sunken living room talking with Aegon. The soft light from the floor lamp bounces off her auburn curls, casts shadows on her cheek bones. Her face is alight with a brilliant smile. She is exquisite. Rhaenyra aches.
Laena clicks her fingers in front of Rhaenyra’s face, “Oy. Stop that. You can’t immediately go all moony looking at her when I’ve just told you off about it.”
“Apologies, Laena. I can’t really help it.” Rhaenyra mumbles into her drink. She is just drunk enough to be unfailingly honest.
“I know you can’t, you idiot. That’s my whole point. You can’t keep casually sleeping together if you have feelings for her.”
She’s right of course. But that doesn’t mean Rhaenyra is going to listen.
