Summary
Also called the Big and Little Dipper, they symbolize a mother and a son. Artemis’ devout huntress, violated by Zeus, the father of the gods, turns into a bear because of Hera. After Callisto’s turning, her son hunts his mother without knowing that it’s his mother. Then, Zeus turns the mother and the son into bears in the sky to mourn them.
One thing he knows is that his Ma loved him more than life.
Life does not like that.

Summary
Miles watches Phoenix draw another heart in the sand. His mind feels quicker than usual, jumping from thought to thought, to the last time they saw each other in Phoenix’s office, to the feeling of his tears hot on Miles’s shirt, to the coffee from this morning still buzzing in his body. He watches Phoenix in silence for a moment, transfixed by the way his finger carves shapes into the shifting sand.
“I’ve been thinking,” he says. “About the last time we saw each other. Six months ago. In your office.”
Over magic tricks, glasses of wine, stubborn grains of sand clinging to their hair, and the fear that an ill advised meeting at Phoenix’s office following his disbarment months before has tainted their relationship, Miles hosts Phoenix and his new ward at his beach house.

Summary
They eat the tiramisu outside on the patio and Miles brings the radio with them, where voices chat lightly in Italian, sometimes laughing or playing music. Occasionally, Phoenix asks for a translation, and Miles slips in and out of the two languages seamlessly - he doesn’t even care much for what they’re saying, Phoenix just likes to hear him repeat the words back to him. “Pirla,” Miles says, spooning at a layer of cocoa-powder, “it means ‘idiot’ or 'stupid person'.”
“Pirla.” He repeats, in full-blown American. “And what are they saying now?”
“They’re talking about how much they hate their husbands.”
“Jesus. Why does everyone always hate their husbands?”
Phoenix makes dinner. A week spent in Lake Como, 2022.
