Summary
The orphanage burns even brighter than he thought it would. Tom stands across the road, the dedicated assembly area, with the other kids but apart like always, and watches. His eyes burn from the smoke that rises up in a dirty dark column, and because he’s refusing to blink as often as he should, not wanting to miss a second of this. The flames flicker high, momentarily making the drab building look as magnificent as the Hogwarts castle. Fire is its own kind of magic, making something mundane glorious even as it reduces it to ash. Beauty in destruction, Tom thinks. Something to aspire to.
